Journey with the
Moon
Eternal dance of Sun and Moon, celestial representatives of Divine masculine principle and Divine feminine principle, Shiva and Shakti, has inspired yogis, rishis, astrologers, poets and seers since time immemorial. In Vedic Astrology, we call a unique relationship between your natal Sun and natal Moon a tithi – lunar phase.
Introduction
This sacred relationship between Sun and Moon present in your birth chart reveals how do you relate to things in your life. Your unique birth tithi does not only reveal your deeper emotional make-up, but also tells a lot about how do you receive things in life: in relationships, in sphere of finances, in challenging life situations and even in spirituality.
This unique lunar blue-print reveals you a completely new dimension of your birth chart.
Sun and Moon
Shiva and Shakti
Shiva is the Sun, the light of the soul, while Shakti is the Moon, the individual mind, which takes part in a Divine game of life, and is sensitive to different moods of the present moment. Tithi is a detailed study of the angle and relationship between them, that helps us understand better some hidden secrets of your birth chart.
108
Sacred number
The distance between Earth and Moon are 108 Moons. The distance between Sun and Earth is 108 Suns. While the diameter of the Sun is 108 Earths. It is believed that this sacred relationship between Sun, Moon and Earth is what makes life on Earth possible. That is why tithi can tell you so much about your own life.
Tithi
Your lunar phase
Your birth tithi is so powerful that it can increase or diminish the influence of certain rashis or nakshatras in your birth chart, as well as make certain planets more or less friendly towards you. It can block some of your emotions or exaggerate them. This is why as long as you do not know the birth tithi of the person, you don’t really know a person.
Nitya Devis
Goddesses of Time
Every tithi or lunar phase is presided by one of the forms of Divine Mother, Parashakti. These goddesses are known as Nitya Devis (“goddesses of eternity”) or Kala Shaktis (“powers of time”) as they have the power to rule over all other elements of Time. By connecting to your Nitya Devi, by mantra, yantra or meditation, you can heal your birth tithi.

1. Pratipad Tithi
The very first lunar day in Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha is presided by Goddess Kameshwari – the one, who awakens new desires and creativity within us, and the one who helps us to fulfill our wishes. It is fiery, rajasic, passionate, creative, impulsive and intense. It is the bringer of new beginnings.
2. Dvitiya Tithi
The second lunar day is governed by auspicious Goddess Bhagamalini, “the one garlanded with luck”. She blesses us with stability, confidence, patience and grounding, that can help us to fulfill our desires awakened on the previous lunar day. She gives us the power to manifest our creativity and share it with the world.
3. Tritiya Tithi
The third lunar day is governed by the great nourisher, Goddess Nityaklinna or “eternally wet with compassion”, who helps us to grow and sustain everything. She teaches us about the power of a meaningful connection, as well as helps us to end all quarrels and bring more harmony into all our relationships with our sincere effort.
4. Chaturti Tithi
The fourth lunar day is governed by Goddess Bherunda, who neutralises all the poisons and helps us to purify our bodies and minds from all negativities and limitation. This is why it is one of the best days for fasting. Goddess Bherunda inspires us to think out of the box, when looking for solutions for our existing problems.
5. Panchami Tithi
The fifth lunar day is governed by Goddess Vahnivasini, who lights the fire of creativity within us. She helps us to have more positive attitude in life, express our creative potential and be more open for new adventures. She is also supporting us in expressing our love. The energy of this lunar day is very light and pleasant.
6. Shashti Tithi
The sixth lunar day is governed by powerful Goddess Vajreshwari, who blesses us with the power to make our effort in life and achieve success in all our endeavours. The energy of this lunar day is fiery, intense and very goal-oriented. Goddess Vajreshwari also gives more focus to our mind and helps in studying Vedic Astrology.
7. Saptami Tithi
The seventh lunar day is governed by Goddess Shivaduti or “messenger of Shiva”. Goddess in this form helps us to be more patient and humble on our path, and to find balance in everything that we do. She also helps us in all types of mediations, negotiations, compromises and resolving conflicts.
8. Ashtami Tithi
The eighth lunar day is governed by swift Goddess Tvarita. Its nature is fast, swift, eccentric and a little bit unsettling. It is one of the best days for travelling. Goddess Tvarita is helping us to complete all tasks quickly, reach instant healing, balance the opposites and open up for new solutions and changes of plans.
9. Navami Tithi
The ninth lunar day is governed by Goddess Kulasundari. She helps us to connect deeper with our spiritual lineage and our Guru. This is one of the best days for meditation, contemplation on spiritual teachings and reconnection with our true self. It helps us to open more for receiving true wisdom.
10. Dashami Tithi
The tenth lunar day is governed by Goddess Nitya. On this specific lunar day our mind has the tendency to become most active and filled with thoughts. Its creative and imaginative abilities become increased, too, and even our dreams can become more vivid. This is one of the best days for brainstorming.
11. Ekadashi Tithi
The auspicious eleventh lunar day is governed by Goddess Nilapataka, who helps us to burn the impurities in our body and mind in the fire of spiritual practice. This is the best lunar day for fasting, meditation and increasing your spiritual efforts, as it allows you to connect more easily with the Divine.
12. Dvadashi Tithi
The twelfth lunar day is governed by victorious Goddess Vijaya, who helps to achieve completion and success in any sphere of life. Goddess in this form is also blessing us with spiritual and material wealth, which is why it is believed that it is the best lunar day for giving donations to charities.
13. Trayodashi Tithi
The thirteenth lunar day is governed by all-auspicious Goddess Sarvamangala. She makes everything prosperous, and, similarly like Goddess Vijaya, blesses us with material and spiritual abundance. This is also one of the best days for learning and receiving wisdom, as it makes our mind more positive and open.
14. Chaturdashi Tithi
The fourteenth lunar day is the most intense of all tithis. Governed by a fierce Goddess Jwalamalini, “garlanded with flames”, it burns all the impurities of our mind, so we can reconnect with our true nature. This day is not auspicious for any activity excerpt fasting or spiritual practice, as it makes our mind too agitated.
15. New / Full Moon
The fifteenth lunar day, also known as New Moon or Full Moon, brings the lunar cycle to completion. It is governed by Goddess Citra, who blesses us with the fruits of each lunar fortnight. New Moon and Full Moon days are the best for sincere introspection and increasing our spiritual efforts.

Achala Sylwia Mihajlovic
I am an Atma Kriya Yoga teacher, Vedic Astrologer and a fellow soul on a journey through life. Since I started practising Vedic Astrology, back in 2010, it greatly enriched my spiritual path and experience of life itself. It allowed me to notice the Divine presence, manifested in our lives in so many vibrant forms, in much more tangible way – and at the same time taught me how to learn from the wisdom of the present moment. To that Divine knowledge I bow down. And I hope it will inspire you in the same way.
