Nilapataka, independent and powerful Goddess of Ekadashi tithi, teaches us to find our inner power through challenges, test and purification. It is one of the best days for fasting.
Nilapataka is intense Goddess of eleventh lunar day, which is associated in Bhavishya Purana with eleven rudras, fierce forms of Shiva – God of ascetics, yogis, moksha, destruction and transformation. Similarly, the energy of Goddess Nilapataka is very intense and Her presence extremely powerful. Ekadashi tithi, co-ruled by Mars and fire element, is a very transformative combination. Its intense heat was since ages harnessed by yogis for spiritual purposes: to fast, focus on meditation and purify the mind and the body from all the poisons. Dark blue Goddess Nilapataka inspires to be more withdrawn today, harness our inner fire and use the intense energy of that day for spiritual practice, detox or purification.
Her blue hue also stands for neutralising all the poisons and absorbing all the impurities. When during the churning of the cosmic ocean, halahala, deadly, blue poison, emerged from it, it was Shiva Himself, who saved the situation, by drinking the poison. Similarly, during the process of our spiritual transformation, “churning” of our consciousness, which Goddess Nilapataka stands for, many such poisons emerge on the surface. Goddess in this form reminds us not to spread them around and lose the control over our temper on Her lunar day, but rather to withdraw our senses, “swallow” the poison, and withhold its intensity, similarly like Lord Shiva did – as this will make us and our will power stronger. Will power itself and ability of self-control is connected to our manipura chakra (the chakra of the element of fire in our subtle body), which, interestingly, opposite to the common belief, is also said to be of sapphire colour in Yoga Kundalini Upanishad.

Ekadashi Tithi In-depth

Discover the secrets of Ekadashi tithi in this almost 3 hours long session with several study cases and detailed knowledge of the symbolism and secrets of this lunar day and its deities. Along with the access to course recording you will also receive a chapter from my ebook “Journey with the Moon”, dedicated to Nilapataka, Lunar Goddess of Ekadashi tithi, along several charts for self-study.
1. Uncover unknown secrets of Ekadashi tithi
I have dedicated a big part of my life to research of the Vedic lunar phases and I can honestly say that you will most likely not find such detailed knowledge on this topic anywhere else. On this course you will learn not only about the superficial symbolism of Ekadashi tithi and its presiding Goddess, Nilapataka, but also some of its deep secrets.

2. Understand the spiritual aspect
Spiritual approach to tithis or Vedic lunar phases is what makes my tithi classes unique and very different from others. I have spent a lot of time connecting with the Goddesses of the lunar phases, meditating with them and trying to learn from their wisdom. I have learnt that they teach us a lot about the evolution of our own consciousness. People who resonate with my classes are frequently already on spiritual path or are yoga or meditation practitioners.
3. Learn how to apply your knowledge
I believe that knowledge gains its real value only once we learn how to apply it. It is not enough just to understand, how the tithi functions in theory. You want to be able also to use this knowledge in your everyday life, as well as in your chart readings, too, don’t you? Each session of our classes completes with a detailed analysis of chosen study cases, as well as analyses the influence of each lunar day in our everyday life, activities that it supports and remedies that help us to heal it.

Fragment from "Journey with the Moon" ebook

Ekadashi tithi and the deep, blue hue of Goddess Nilapataka, stand for the deep sleep state of consciousness, within all the four lunar days connected to the deep sleep state. On Ekadashi tithi, our mind is the most absent and is connected with its deepest nature. This is why its nature is ananda or “giving bliss”. Now, depending on, all the “monsters” and “poisons” that we are growing in our unconscious mind, all these negativities can emerge on the surface of our consciousness during Ekadashi, which is why fasting and conscious purification is so recommended during that day. On the other hand, if we are really sincere with ourselves and our desire to connect with the Supreme is pure, this is also the best day to make such a connection. As Swami Sivananda explained, during Ekadashi tithi our mental activity is the lowest. If we additionally lower it by fasting and conscious spiritual practice throughout the day, we can have the chance to catch a glance of the Supreme and touch the higher Reality. Not without a reason kala of the Moon associated with this lunar day is jyotsna or “Divine halo”. Only due to intense spiritual practice and penance our aura gets strengthened and starts to emanate a sort of halo or Divine energy. Goddess Nilapataka helps us on Ekadashi to make our own bioenergy field much stronger – and gives us many hints, how to do that.
